DIY Christmas Ornaments for Kids

I love maps. And I love Christmas. So, when I was thinking up a craft that could go specifically with my new book - Where Would Santa Go? - I thought it would be fun to combine the two.

Like my other DIY crafts, this is all about using what you have at home. The only added item you’ll need is a map. Whether you print it out from the Internet, or actually use up old paper maps, is up to you.

Supplies needed for DIY Christmas map ornament.png

Then, using plastic lids from any source, trace a circle using the chosen lid around the part of the map you want to feature. Cut it out and glue it in. Then do the same for the other side of the lid. You can use regular glue or Mod Podge. Mod Podge will give it that shiny lacquer look. When it’s all dry, just punch a hole for the hook - or you can use the embellishments for the hook part, completely up to you.

Then have fun embellishing the edges. Use ribbon or pompoms or lace or pipe cleaners. Whatever you have.

Maybe have everyone in the family do one for where you went on vacation this year. Or maybe do some for where you would like to go on vacation in the future. Put a date on it, or write “Lily’s wish”. Make it as fun and personal as you want.

These also make great gifts. Have a friend or family member who went on a fabulous trip recently? Make them an ornament to commemorate it.

Just have fun and make some great memories.
